This challenging project saw the conversion of a former cinema complex into eight new retail spaces. SUMMIT Construction managed the structural alterations, new subdivision and fit-out. One of the challenges encountered was the removal of precast panels to create one large tenancy from two former cinemas. The panels were full height, extending through the roof to form a parapet. The design methodology proposed propping the roof while cutting out the panels and installing the new structure. The SUMMIT team opted to remove the roof and associated structure, allowing clear access to remove the panels while undertaking the lower level works at the same time – reducing time and cost.

The existing building was poorly documented providing many unforeseen issues. The SUMMIT team provided practical solutions to keep the project on track and within budget. An example of this was the discovery of the services infrastructure supplying the remainder of the complex ran through the area scheduled for demolition. We designed a duct system to protect and mask the services on the perimeter wall.
