In order to sustain the impact force of free weights dropping, CityFitness elected to strengthen the floor in the affected area. The existing floor was constructed from an insitu light weight concrete with signs of fracturing appearing. The works were complicated as the affected area was on Level 2 of a down town office area with no opening windows and limited truck access. The works were scheduled for the week before Christmas when the gym is quite and allowing time for the floor to cure over the holiday period.

SUMMIT Construction minimised impact on the club by screening off the affected areas and working at times when the gym was quiet – which often meant very early mornings. Removal of the existing light weight concrete was painstaking as small pieces of rubble had to be removed from around the reinforcing mesh by hand. Concrete was pumped from the side street up the rear stair and finished by hand as there was insufficient extract to operate petrol powered machines.
